FIL

The Persian word “Fil” translates to “elephant” in English, and the primary design objective for this chair was to imbue an inanimate object with personality. The chair is constructed from thick, rounded tubes, giving it a sturdy and playful appearance. The chair’s stance, the curvature and angle of its four distinctly splayed legs (strongly reminiscent of an elephant’s legs), the prominent outward bulge on the front legs, and even the substantial diameter of the tubing all contribute to creating a whimsical character for this piece. The seat is relatively flat and seamlessly integrated into the tubular frame, while the backrest is formed by a curved tube that rises from the rear, suggesting the gentle curve of an elephant’s back or perhaps the subtle beginning of its trunk. “Fil” is an abstract interpretation of an elephant, and the overall design successfully captures its essence in an imaginative and charming way, making it a characterful piece of furniture.
